How do I prepare my vehicle for shipping?

Here are some basic guidelines to remember when preparing your car for transport:

  • Leave gas tank half full.  This will ensure your vehicle will start when removing your vehicle from the truck.
  • Check your antifreeze levels. If you're shipping a vehicle from a warm climate to a cold climate, be sure it has a sufficient amount of antifreeze. This will protect it from the cold weather.
  • Remove all personal items from the vehicle.  Federal and State Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations prohibit the transport of household items in vehicles being transported by auto carriers.
  • Disable all alarm systems. Although alarm systems should be disabled, please inform us of any alarms and provide instructions for operating the alarm should it be necessary.
  • Check tire pressure. Tires should be inflated to their recommended pressure level to insure safe loading and unloading.
  • Remove all EZ Passes from the cars.  If they are not stored in the proper way, your pass may be charged at each toll booth accidently.
  • Keys and Documents.  If you are sending any manuals, title, bill of sale, or anything else that needs to be delivered to the receiver, make sure you give those items to the carrier and they log them in.

Will the size of my vehicle affect the price?

Yes. Shipments are based on many variables. The pick up location, delivery destination as well as the length & weight of your vehicle determine the rate. Taller, longer & heavier vehicles, such as trucks & SUV’s as well as those with specialized or custom enhancements to the exterior, may require an additional fee.

Can you transport my vehicle if it is not in a running or operational condition?

A non operational vehicle can be transported; however, additional charges will apply. In order to provide you with correct information, we will need to know the true condition of the vehicle. For example, it is important that a non op vehicle rolls forward and in reverse, steers and brakes. Vehicles that do not meet these criteria can still be moved, however, may require special equipment for loading and unloading.

Do I get to choose specific pick-up and delivery dates?

Your auto shipper company's representative should be able to provide you with an estimate of pick-up and delivery times. A 3-day window for pick-up is common and reasonable. After the vehicle is picked up, your hauler should be able to give you a fairly precise estimate of the delivery date. If you need an exact date for delivery, most auto transport companies can accommodate your request by picking up your car and holding it at their facility for an additional charge.

What type of insurance is included to protect my car?

All of the motor carriers must provide primary insurance coverage for the customer's vehicle. The motor carrier's cargo insurance is primary coverage to your own insurance coverage, in an unlikely event that a claim may arise. This insurance covers damage to the vehicle only, and does NOT cover any loss or damage to any personal property left in the vehicle. Please see shipping terms and the pickup bill of lading for details on coverage.

What is the estimated transport time?

Typical transport time coast to coast nationwide is estimated at 7-14 days in transit once a vehicle is picked up. The estimated transport time varies for shorter distances and routes. Auto transporters cannot guarantee exact transport times due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather elements, road conditions, natural disasters, mechanical issues, etc.

How far in advance should I schedule the transport of my vehicle?

Traditionally, we are able to have a truck assigned and on its way to pick-up your vehicle 1 to 7 days from the date the vehicle is first available for pick-up.

If your vehicle is available for pick-up immediately, we will work with you on getting your vehicle scheduled as close to the preferred date as possible. Seasonal residents moving between New England and Florida should make every attempt to book their order at least 30 days in advance.

What steps are involved in shipping my vehicle?

Once your order is placed and all paperwork submitted, the transport of your vehicle will be scheduled according to the available date you provide. After a truck has been assigned, you will receive an email with the estimated pickup date and time. We instruct the drivers to call the customer 12 to 24 hours in advance of pick up or delivery to establish a more accurate estimated time of arrival and to work out specific directions. When the driver picks up your vehicle he will perform a detailed inspection of your vehicle on a Bill of Lading. Both the person releasing the vehicle and the driver will sign this Bill of Lading and one copy is left at the vehicle point of origin. The same Bill of Lading will be present on delivery so that the vehicle can be re-inspected before released.

Where will my vehicle be picked up and delivered?

We offer Door-to-Door Service. Your vehicle will be picked up as close to your home as possible. In some cases we ask that you meet our truck at a mutually appealing location such as a supermarket or some other large parking lot. This is due to the typically large size of the trucks and the inability to maneuver through many streets, under low bridges, wires, and branches.

What happens if I'm not available when the truck comes to pick up or deliver the vehicle?

We try to keep each customer well informed during the entire shipping process. We instruct the drivers to call the customer 12 to 24 hours in advance of pick up or delivery to establish a more accurate estimated time of arrival and to work out specific directions. We ask that you make yourself as available as possible. Please do not take off work or hang around your home until you speak with the driver.

In the event you are not able to release or take possession of your vehicle, you may appoint anyone to do this task. We ask that you supply us with the proper information for contact in this situation. If a pickup or delivery appointment is scheduled with you and you are not at the predetermined location at the specified time you will incur extra charges. These “dry run fees” consist of charges for redelivery to or from your delivery area.
